課程介紹|Content


The goal of this course is to provide an introduction to human factors research and examine human-automation design with special emphasis on user experience (UX). Each class will introduce some UX-related issues and explore theories and applications relevant to solving the problems. Topics focus on how to analyze, create and improve the design of intelligent and mobile systems to enable these applications to be compatible with human capabilities and expectations.

The purpose of this course is to provide the basic knowledge of UX. Upon successful completion, students will:

  • Build a connection between UX and usability evaluation
  • Develop strong knowledge and skills on human interaction with intelligent applications and mobile systems
  • Gain experience in the design and evaluation of human-automation systems

  1. Course Overview: what is UX and why it matters
  2. Overview of UX: history of UX and usability issues
  3. User interface usability: interface designs and visual displays
  4. Know your users: contextual inquiry, persona and user story map
  5. Design methods: diary, journey map and card sorting
  6. Prototype I: low fidelity prototype- sketch
  7. Prototype II: high fidelity prototype- wireframe and interactive mockup
  8. Evaluation: usability analysis
  9. Final Project Discussion I
  10. Final Project Checkpoint
  11. Human cognitive activities: multitasking, stress and workload
  12. Human information processing: decision making and reaction time
  13. Individual differences: spatial ability and navigation applications
  14. International usability: cultural differences and emotional designs
  15. Final Project Discussion II
  16. Future directions: human-automation interaction and human-robot collaboration
  17. Future issues: HCI vs. HRI vs. HAI
